Staying Connected to Yourself and Your Environment
Staying connected to our inner and/or outer experiences is difficult at the best of times. When we get into social situations or in a chaotic environment, it can be even more difficult to connect with what’s happening for us (how we feel, what we need, what we want to say etc.) and what’s happening around us.
For many of us, it is really easy to attune to others and our environment while losing connection with ourselves. This shows up by us focusing and attending to others’ needs in the moment while being totally unaware of how we feel or what we need. This can result in being unable to know or communicate what you really want/need to or being unable to do what you really want/need in the moment. This can also result in you staying in situations or places that no longer feel good for you or honours your needs at that moment.
On the other hand, some of us can be so attuned to what’s happening inside of us, that we cannot experience what is happening in our environment. We can be so attuned to our thoughts, our feelings or our physical pain, that we are unable to fully engage with what is happening around us or with others trying to connect with us.
Why Is This Important?
Practising expanding our awareness to include both ourselves and our environment and others can be helpful when trying to communicate, to understand our needs in a moment and to truly connect with others and our whole experience.
The Practise
